Rachel Howard

Owner, Lead Trainer

Rachel started Sunrise Equine in 2010 with a small group of clients. Since then she has worked with horses and riders with varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds. She has since cultivated a close community of riders drawn together to meet their personal and athletic goals within a common love of horses. Rachel teaches balanced horsemanship that encourages ground and flatwork as critical foundations for jumping. She emphasizes the importance of trust, body awareness, and communication improvement between horse and rider. Rachel believes in horse training through patience, consistency, and kindness, especially for young, green, or troubled horses. She develops riders and their horses through group and team building, positive support, and individualized instruction; to help all riders grow and develop to meet their goals and foster a close-knit community of equestrian enthusiasts.


Her experience includes:

  • 20 years of intensive equestrian experience in multiple riding disciplines including English, Eventing, jumpers, western, gymkhana, rodeo

  • Extensive experience starting and training young horses through natural horsemanship

  • Competing and coaching at recognized Area 9 shows 

  • Developing riders and horses from beginner through advanced levels in multiple riding disciplines

  • Managing a multi-disciplinary equestrian facility with diverse clients and horses of various nutritional, health, and training needs

  • Focused experience in training and competing in all levels of Eventing 

  • Colorado State University - Bachelors of Science in Business and Finance, 2008

  • Colorado Local – Been in Fort Collins for 15 years
